Plus, showrunner Jeremy Slater teases the big meeting, the demon's next moves
Looks like Andy just got his prayers answered.
After three episodes of adventures on the mainland, Marcus (Ben Daniels) and Tomas (Alfonso Herrera) will meet Andy (John Cho) for the first time in the fourth episode of The Exorcist‘s second season airing Oct. 20, landing on the island Andy calls home just in time to face the demon lurking in the woods that’s tormenting Andy’s foster family.
Consider it divine intervention: Since the beginning of this year’s supernatural adventure, the fates of these characters have been intertwined. Father Tomas had visions (are they really visions?) of children’s handprints that turned out to be the exact same as the handprints seen on the walls of Andy’s home. So when he arrives on the island, Tomas immediately understands that something is off.
“The second Tomas steps off the boat, he senses there’s something wrong, because he’s such a finely tuned instrument at this point,” teases showrunner Jeremy Slater. “Even before Andy and some of the adult characters do, he realizes there’s something very bad here, and that these cute little kids are in a tremendous amount of danger.”
Even so, the first meeting of the minds goes rather well, as EW can exclusively reveal:
The demon’s going to wipe those smiles off of their faces pretty quickly, though. Marcus and Tomas know they’ll have to save someone, but don’t know who the demon will target. “We’re not at a point where any of the kids are levitating around or projectile vomiting, so how do you save them when you know they’re headed for disaster?” Slater says. “Once they show up, Marcus and Tomas are thrust into this position where they’re going to have to do some detective work. There are some fun scenes where they’re going from kid to kid and trying to figure it out.”
“At the same time,” he continues, “it’s going to be very obvious that the demon on the island is not happy that it was getting this close to getting what it wanted, and then suddenly two priests arrive out of the blue.” A pissed-off demon on an isolated island where the nearest authorities are an hour away by boat? God only knows what’ll happen next.
Well, God — and maybe the cast of The Exorcist. Because it’s Friday the 13th, Herrera and Daniels sat down to film a video doling out their best tips and tricks for determining whether a demon has possessed an innocent human being. (Clues include super-strength, speaking Latin, and a “negative response to religious items.”) Watch the video below:
The Exorcist airs Fridays at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.
