We’ve seen plenty of fish-out-of-water shows over the years, but Freeform is taking that to the next level with Siren, its upcoming drama about a mysterious girl arriving in a town once believed to be a home to mermaids.

In the clip the network debuted at New York Comic Con on Saturday (above), you can see that girl — played by Eline Powell — waking up in a long-abandoned, grounded boat and dining on a breakfast of rat before stealing a hoodie and walking barefoot into town. Soon we see that Bristol Cove is home of the Mermaid Days Festival and meet a store owner claiming to have “the only real mermaid artifacts in town.” When the shopkeeper looks up to see our high-cheekboned mystery girl, she looks surprised… and kind of terrified.

According to Freeform, her arrival “begins wreaking havoc upon the small fishing town. Using their resources, marine biologists Ben (Alex Roe) and Maddie (Fola Evans-Akingbola) must work together to find out who and what drove this primal hunter of the deep sea to land, and are there more like her out there?”

The NYCC panel also revealed the show’s premiere date — March 29 — and announced the casting of recurring cast members Aylya Marzoff (Grandfathered) and Sedale Threatt Jr. (Hap and Leonard) as Katrina, “an alpha leader of the mermaid colony,” and Levi, “a warrior merman with an imposing presence,” respectively.

Things on the show are definitely going to get fishy.

The two-hour premiere of Siren will air Thursday, March 29, beginning at 8 p.m. on Freeform.
