The Community actress shines on the new ABC comedy
Brandon Micheal Hall’s protagonist may pull off a historic upset in The Mayor, but as for the show’s real winner, viewers might want to look to Yvette Nicole Brown.
That’s at least according to Bingeworthy co-hosts Jessica Shaw and Touré, who agree that the former Community star is the show’s certified scene stealer. Brown plays the loving but firm mother of main character Courtney Rose, a young rapper whose local campaign for mayor goes from publicity stunt to electoral stunner. Brown proves herself to be The Mayor’s “real winner” as she guides Courtney through the grave responsibilities of elected office. “She is so good,” Shaw says of the actress.
Shaw makes sure to give a shout-out to The Mayor’s leading man as well, however. “Brandon Micheal Hall is so good,” she raves. “He’s at that right balance of really funny, but also, he seems kind of new — and you buy it, that he’s learning as he’s going along.”
Both are ready to give the show a binge — Touré calls it “smart and thoughtful,” and is invested in what’s going to happen to the characters over time. Watch the clip above to learn why else the hosts are tuning into The Mayor.
