Before Pamela Adlon broke out on the FX series Louie and Better Things, she had a long-running role in the raunchy Showtime comedy Californication — and in portraying the no-filter Marcy Runkle, the actress often had the filthiest language of anyone on set. But not everybody was always so comfortable with the series’ salacious content.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly: The Show, Adlon recounted the hilarious time she and costar Natascha McElhone, who played the wife of David Duchovny’s protagonist, walked in on Duchovny and Evan Handler — as was written in the script — engaging in a graphic threesome. Per Adlon, McElhone went into a slight panic after witnessing the scene.

“We open the door, and she sees ‘Oh, the humanity!’ that’s going on in the room, and we leave the room and we walked around the corner,” Adlon recalls. “She looked at me and she goes ‘Oh my God!’ And she sat in a chair and she goes ‘Oh God, we’re doing porn — we’re doing a porn!’” To which Adlon, naturally, could only cheer in enthusiasm.

Adlon, fresh off a Best Actress Emmy nomination for Better Things, also provided insight on some of her other recognizable roles, dating back to her turn on The Facts of Life when she was just 17 years old. Watch the EW: The Show clip above as Adlon revives her infamous Bobby Hill voice performance from King of the Hill, reveals the real reason Michelle Pfeiffer was wearing sunglasses in one Grease 2 scene, and of course, revisits the filthy glory of Californication.
