Good thing she can create portals out of thin air
Fox’s X-Men series The Gifted doesn’t begin in Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters, nor does it take place anywhere near Westchester. It doesn’t feature blue and yellow spandex uniforms, the Danger Room, Cerebro, or any other staples of Professor X’s curriculum. But then again, The Gifted isn’t about the X-Men.
Instead, it’s about what happens when the team that’s protected mutant-hood has gone MIA, and every mutant has gone on the run. In the opening scene of The Gifted above, Jamie Chung’s Blink — a mutant played by Fan Bingbing in 2014’s Days of Future Past — tears through an alleyway, hoping to evade capture by Sentinel Services. (The series takes place in one of the alternate timelines created thanks to the events of Days of Future Past.) Blink can create colorful portals, but she doesn’t appear completely comfortable with her ability… yet.
Watch the full six minutes of the pilot above. And below, EW has an exclusive closer look at Blink and her portal, as well as two more exclusive images of the featured mutants on the drama: Thunderbird (Blair Redford), a super-strong mutant tracker, and Polaris (Emma Dumont), a mutant with the ability to control magnetism.
The Gifted premieres Monday, Oct. 2, at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.
