Scandal’s “Goodbye to You,” with those mighty pipes of Patty Smyth singing “I remember the good times baby now, and the bad times too,” rocks the soundtrack to this exclusive trailer for season 3 of Red Oaks. It’s also something of a theme for this new six-episode block. Amazon’s sweet, snark-free comedy about a young man coming of age in the mid ’80s will wrap up its run after this season, which debuts on Oct. 20.
As season 3 opens, David (Craig Roberts) is working as a production assistant in New York City, fetching coffee for music video producers — but also keeping his cool while interacting with one of the decade’s most iconic pop stars. His dad Sam (Richard Kind) is eyeing a ramshackle storefront as a possible business venture with help from his ex-wife and real estate agent Judy (Jennifer Grey). Things are going pretty well for corporate raider Getty (Paul Reiser), who’s serving time in a country club prison for insider trading, until tennis pro Nash (Ennis Esmer) pays a visit to inform him that Japanese investors are planning to buy Red Oaks Country Club.
Series creators Gregory Jacobs and Joe Gangemi, plus executive producer Steven Soderbergh, promise a satisfying conclusion to the show’s alternately wistful and blissful arc. And viewers can be assured by the three directors behind the camera during this third season: The brilliant Amy Heckerling (Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Clueless), soulful indie maestro Hal Hartley (Trust, Henry Fool), and series veteran David Gordon Green (Eastbound and Down, Pineapple Express, Stronger) each are credited with two episodes.
Red Oaks‘ third season debuts on Amazon Oct. 20.
