Boom operators have feelings, too. Jimmy Fallon portrays a pretty emotional one who just can’t keep it together on the set of This Is Us.

Saturday Night Live‘s Mikey Day joins Fallon in the Tonight Show sketch as the episode’s director, who tries to film a scene with Sterling K. Brown and Chrissy Metz. As Metz’s Kate begins blaming herself for their dad’s death, Fallon’s Dale begins ruining the take by bawling into the boom.

“I’m not crying, you’re crying on the set,” he shouts.

After disrupting more than 21 takes and almost getting into a fight with Metz for calling her a “diva,” the whole team breaks down in sobs. “You know what? There’s no shame in it. We all cry. This is who we are…This is us,” Metz says. Even Milo Ventimiglia, who plays the rough-and-tough Pearson family patriarch, pops in for a hug because he “gets emotional” sometimes.

After that emotional season premiere of This Is Us, we all need to hug it out.
