The A Christmas Story Live! cast is growing.
Matthew Broderick has been cast as the narrator in Fox’s forthcoming live musical, the network announced Thursday. According to the press release, “As the narrator, Broderick will play the grown-up Ralphie Parker, who looks back with love and humor on his favorite childhood Christmas.” Jean Shepard voiced this role in the original film A Christmas Story.
The Tony Award-winning actor is joining the previously announced Maya Rudolph (Saturday Night Live), who will play the mother of 9-year-old Ralphie (a role that has yet to be cast).
Inspired by both the 1983 film and the Broadway production A Christmas Story: The Musical, the three-hour telecast will be executive produced by Grease: Live‘s Marc Platt and Adam Siegel. Dear Evan Hansen and La La Land dynamic duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who also composed the music for A Christmas Story: The Musical, will write several new songs for the live event.
A Christmas Story Live! will air Sunday, Dec. 17 at 7 p.m. on Fox.
