The Mindy Project is currently airing its sixth and final season on Hulu, but should you tune in and binge or delete it from your DVR?
The hosts of Bingeworthy, Jessica Shaw and Touré, have opposing opinions on the matter.
Touré has never been a big fan of the show, missing Kaling’s character Kelly Kapoor from The Office. “It never lived up to its potential,” he said.“I’m super glad that The Mindy Project existed. I’m glad Mindy Kaling got her shot to do her thing the way she wanted to do it, but it’s never really been that funny.”
Shaw disagreed: “I have to say, the second half of season one and season two of The Mindy Project when it was on Fox are some of the funniest moments in sitcom history. … Season 2 is one of the sharpest seasons of television I’ve ever seen.”
Though she agrees the show has lost its luster in recent years, Shaw says she’s determined to see it through to the end as part of her “completionist” personality. “It definitely feels like they’re on the farewell tour. They’re bringing back all the old characters,” she said. “It’s nice to see the old gang back together, but I just don’t feel like the show holds the magic that it once did. With one exception: Ike Barinholtz is consistently the hero of that show. He is so funny.”
While Shaw says “Binge” and Touré says “Delete,” they both love Kaling. “Mindy Kaling is a great comedic talent. I’m looking forward to what she does next,” says Shaw.
