Mindy Kaling shares photo of her last day on the Mindy Project set
- TV Show
Mindy Kaling is saying goodbye to The Mindy Project set. In a new photo posted to social media, the star and series creator shared a look at her “last day” shooting the Hulu comedy after six seasons.
The sitcom premiered on Fox in 2012, but after three seasons, the network canceled the project, which was quickly scooped up by Hulu. The new photo shows Mindy Lahiri back in her office a final time after season 5 left viewers with the cliffhanger that she married her boyfriend, Ben.
“We’re really excited about this last season,” Kaling told EW in an interview for the show’s cancellation announcement. “I think the timing is exactly right. What’s weird is, Mindy is married at the end of the season 5 finale, but she has never been married in the series, so that’s incredibly fun for a character who’s been obsessed with [marriage] and has come close many times, and seeing her disavow it for a while after her disastrous breakup with who she thought was her soulmate. And now she’s married!”
The sixth season premiered on Hulu on Sept. 12 with the third episode coming this Tuesday.
With the show gearing up for the end, Kaling has been receiving praise from her costars — Xosha Roquemore called The Mindy Project “groundbreaking in terms of comedy and in terms of our creator,” while Beth Grant called Kaling “a feminist hero.”
