After her departure from Fox News, Meghan McCain is now eyeing a spot on The View. The conservative pundit and daughter of Arizona senator John McCain is reportedly in late-stage talks to become the new conservative panelist on The View, according to CNN.
The ABC talk show just lost their conservative panelist, Jedediah Bila, who abruptly announced Monday morning that she would be exiting effective immediately, so they are most likely looking for a replacement to start ASAP. The network has a short list of potential replacements and they expect to fill the spot quickly, a source at ABC told EW.
The source said they “wouldn’t be surprised” if McCain was on the short list, and added the network has been looking for conservative voices since Candace Cameron Bure left the show late last year.
In a note sent to the show’s staff, The View executive producers wrote about the “bittersweet” news of Bila’s exit. “She has new opportunities on the horizon, including her new book,” it reads. “She’s been a spirited voice at the table over the past year, asking smart questions and challenging us all to think. We want to thank Jed very much for all of her contributions and wish her great success with the next step in her career. She will always be part of The View family, and we’ll welcome her back to talk about her new projects.”
“So, this is my last day at The View, and I want to thank these ladies. What you don’t know about these ladies is we’re really friends,” Bila said on Monday’s broadcast. “I want to thank the viewers, even the ones who write the hate tweets.”
Bila plugged her upcoming book before her co-hosts Sunny Hostin and Sara Haines hugged her goodbye.
McCain, who has become known for denouncing President Donald Trump and his supporters, worked on Fox’s Outnumbered, which features a similar View-like panel format. Bila, like McCain, worked as a contributor to Fox News as well before joining the show.
