Stephen King gets gory for Mr. Mercedes cameo
In this exclusive preview, the author finds himself on the receiving end of one of his fictional killers
It’s a good week for Stephen King adaptations. It shattered expectations with a $117 million opening weekend box office, but that’s not the only King work currently being translated to the screen. Wednesday night also brings episode 6 of Mr. Mercedes — and, by cosmic coincidence, King’s cameo in the show.
Based on the 2014 King novel of the same name, Mr. Mercedes follows the cat-and-mouse game between retired detective Bill Hodges (Brendan Gleeson) and young serial murderer Brady Hartsfield (Harry Treadaway). In this week’s episode, titled “People in the Rain,” written by crime novelist Dennis Lehane, Brady goes in for a job interview to become manager of his local electronics store. A high-stakes corporate interview is stressful for any of us, much less a sociopathic murderer. As the interview progresses, Brady keeps imagining murdering everyone in the restaurant — including the chef, played by a particularly unlucky Uncle Steve.
