Craving your next twisty thriller in the vein of Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train?

SundanceTV’s got you covered with its new six-part psychological thriller Liar, and EW is exclusively bringing you the first trailer.

Written and created by Harry and Jack Williams (The Missing, Fleabag),Liar stars Downton Abbey’s Joanne Froggatt and Fantastic Four’s Ioan Gruffudd as school teacher Laura Nielsen and renowned surgeon Andrew Earlham.

Earlham’s son is a student at Nielsen’s school, leading the two to cross paths and Nielsen to re-enter the dating scene following a recent break-up. After a date (the start of which we see in the opening of the first trailer), accusations fly and the two find themselves embroiled in a snare of secrets and lies that threaten to undo their lives.

The trailer shows Froggatt and Gruffudd in a series of fraught scenarios, including police coming to Earlham’s home with a warrant, the pocketing of a knife, a shattered wine glass, and dripping blood.

Froggatt’s character ominously says, “I want him to feel humiliated, I want him to suffer,” and we hurdle into a montage of mystery ending with what seems to be Froggatt’s scream.

The Golden Globe-winning actress has gone darker of late (following her breakout role as Anna Bates on Downton Abbey), most recently starring as Britain’s first female serial killer in PBS’s Dark Angel.

Gruffudd adds this to a recent string of television roles, including a stint on UnReal and headlining the ABC series Forever.

Watch the trailer above for more. Liar premieres Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 10 p.m. ET on SundanceTV.
