Heading into The Bold Type‘s season 1 finale, all three of the central characters are dealing with major life choices… or, in Sutton’s case, a drunken life choice. After she ended the penultimate hour sleeping with Alex, Meghann Fahy says Sutton will take responsibility for her choices, and, in the end, “I think she knows that they would never work and her heart is really somewhere else,” Fahy says. “I think he probably knows that too on some level.”

As for Kat and Jane, they made big life choices when Kat decided not to travel the world for love and Jane took a job at another publication. “In the finale, we’ll absolutely see the girls rallying around Kat,” Fahy says, noting that Jane’s choice will cause them to be “one soldier down” around the office. And yet, all of that will be overshadowed by the finale’s “big event,” in which the show tackles sexual assault. “I’m excited for people to tell us how they feel about it,” Fahy says. “I hope that we did right by the viewers.”

The Bold Type airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on Freeform.
