The Hollywood hitman series will pick up again in 2018 with 10 more episodes
Just two episodes into its 10-part first season, Get Shorty has been renewed for season 2 by Epix.
The series shares a title with Elmore Leonard’s 1990 novel and Barry Sonnenfeld’s 1995 film adaptation, but like Noah Hawley’s Fargo, the Get Shorty TV series is more inspired by the themes and sensibilities of its predecessors rather than strict plot points.
Created by Davey Holmes, the small-screen Get Shorty follows Nevada hitman Miles Daly (Chris O’Dowd) as he tries to embark on a Hollywood career with the help of embattled B-movie producer Rick Moreweather (Ray Romano). As it turns out, the hitman and Hollywood professions are a better fit for each other than one might expect.
“Get Shorty is our most successful original scripted series to date, and continues to deliver phenomenal performances,” Epix President Mark Greenberg said in a statement.
In EW’s B+ review of the first season, Clark Collis wrote that O’Dowd “exudes shaggy charm” and Romano “is terrific as a monster movie producer and walking bucket of flop sweat.”
Get Shorty airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on Epix. Season 2 will return in 2018 with 10 new episodes.
