In a week that has seen violence and tragedy in Charlottesville after a white supremacist protest and Donald Trump under fire for defending Neo-Nazis by saying that “both sides” were to blame, Conan O’Brien is doing the only logical thing he could: He’s taking his late-night show to the promised land.
The primetime special, Conan Without Borders: Israel, will air on TBS on Sept. 19 at 10 p.m. O’Brien announced the trip — which will include visits to Tel Aviv and Jerusalem — on Wednesday’s broadcast. “Ladies and gentlemen, due to all the division and strife and intractable hatred in this country right now, I’ve decided to leave America for the relative peace, sanity, and quiet of the Middle East,” he said. “That’s right, ladies and gentlemen, I’m going to Israel.”
“I may be in Israel the same week as President Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, who’s been sent there to broker a Middle East solution,” he said. “Well, it occurred to me Kushner and I have the same amount of experience with foreign relations. I might actually have more, so maybe I’ll work with the guy. We could make something happen, maybe.”
This will be O’Brien’s seventh international special in two years; he has already hosted shows from Mexico, Germany, South Korea, Armenia, Cuba, and Qatar.
