Harry Doyle is coming back to the ABC drama
Russell Tovey is returning stateside.
The actor, who joined Quantico in season 2 as slippery wannabe CIA agent (and undercover British Intelligence operative) Harry Doyle, will return in the ABC drama’s third season as a series regular. Harry was last seen being threatened by his ex-lover and former Farm classmate Sebastian (David Lim), who drove him away from joining the CIA-FBI task force created by then-president Claire Haas (Marcia Cross).
Though his decision to leave was a blow to the task force members — in particular to Alex (Priyanka Chopra) — creator and then-showrunner Josh Safran said at the time that his exit might not be permanent. “We made a choice to leave [their story] open-ended because we definitely want to revisit it,” he told EW. “I read online someone was saying the way Russell was written out was sort of abrupt, and I’m like, it really was a secure choice, because we really wanted to say, ‘This character’s not done, this loop is not closed.’ So even if the show were to get canceled and that was the end, where Harry’s journey ended emotionally felt right.”
Tovey most recently starred in the revival of “Angels in America” in London’s West End and had been best known for portraying Kevin Matheson on HBO’s Looking. In May, Quantico was renewed for an abbreviated third season and announced Code Black creator Michael Seitzman as the new showrunner after Safran decided to scale back his role to consulting producer. Tovey is the latest series regular to sign on for another season: He joins previously announced returnees Chopra, Jake McLaughlin, Johanna Braddy, and Blair Underwood.
