Mindy Kaling confirms pregnancy in Sunday TODAY interview

It’s official: Mindy Kaling confirmed that she is pregnant in a clip from a Sunday TODAY interview released Tuesday.

The news of Kaling’s pregnancy first broke in mid-July, but the star declined to comment or confirm until now.

“It’s so unknown to me,” Kaling told Willie Geist when asked about motherhood for the sit-down, set to air on NBC Sept. 10. “I have a lot of control over a lot of aspects of my life, and this is one where it’s like, ‘Okay!’ It’s out of my hands, which is kind of a fun feeling.”

She also spoke about her own mother, whom she has described as her best friend and who died of pancreatic cancer in 2012. “My mom was incredibly fierce and so devoted to us but was just loved us and really wanted us to be happy no matter what we did,” she said. “My career choice was not something she was familiar with, and she was just so supportive of that, and if I could give that to my child, just that open-mindedness, I’d be so happy.”
