Stephen Colbert's Cartoon Trump lampoons Wall Street Journal interview
Reminder, these are actual quotes from the Trump transcript
When Stephen Colbert heard that Politico published the full transcript of President Trump’s interview with the Wall Street Journal, he couldn’t let it go unnoticed. On Wednesday night, the Late Show host enlisted the aid of Cartoon Trump to dramatize how Trump might have delivered such lines as, “You call places like Malaysia, Indonesia, and you say, you know, how many people do you have? And it’s pretty amazing how many people they have.”
Colbert interviewed the animated POTUS on various topics, including trade talks with the U.K., and his response was another quote pulled directly from the WSJ interview. “I can say that we’re going to be very involved with the U.K. I mean, you don’t hear the word Britain anymore. It’s very interesting. It’s like, nope.”
As the late-night personality pointed out, “You just said the word Britain.”
Asked about POTUS’ previous false claim that the U.S. was the highest-taxed nation in the world, Cartoon Trump pulled from this quote for an answer: “We’re the highest-taxed nation in the world. We have — nobody knows what the number is. I mean, it used to be, when we talked during the debate, $2.5 trillion, right, when the most elegant person — right? I call him Mr. Elegant.”
“What does any of that mean?” Colbert asked. “And I know this is something you’ve actually said, who is Mr. Elegant?” This, as it happened, wasn’t pulled from the transcript. Cartoon Trump pulled out a flute and summoned his imaginary friend, Mr. Elegant, a.k.a. Lord Winston Elegante III Esquire.
