Crazy Ex-Girlfriend: Rachel Bloom compares season 3 to 'funny Fatal Attraction'
The last time Crazy Ex-Girlfriend fans saw Rebecca Bunch, she was standing on a literal cliff after Josh left her at the altar. And when she returns in the show’s third season, she will be a “sexy, strong woman scorned,” according to Rachel Bloom.
The cast and creators of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend took the stage at TCA on Wednesday to talk about what fans can expect. “If you thought this show was going to be funny Fatal Attraction, that’s what we are going into the season as,” Bloom said, with co-creator Aline Brosh McKenna adding, “If Rebecca tried to boil a bunny, she would take the bunny and bring it home, and a month later she would have 50 bunnies. She is not very good at being a femme fatale.”
Rebecca will be set on revenge, something that will motivate Josh to make some big decisions of his own. “Josh is gonna hit a crossroads,” Vincent Rodriguez III said. “How long does he stick with anything? That’s the question. And where does Josh see himself in the future, his place in the world? That’s something he will face head on. Rebecca will help facilitate that, given her revenge-seeking ways this season.”
Talking musical numbers, Bloom revealed: “I have a fairly big bruise from a sexy musical number we have done on the show, in which I have actually had my boobs out for the first time in 35 episodes. Rebecca associates sex with power. She uses her sexuality very openly.” Additionally, they do promise more ensemble-based songs this season.
As for whether Greg could return, Bloom said, “If we say anything, it’s a big spoiler. He is a massively important character. His presence is still incredibly important. We have not forgotten about that character.” So… that’s not technically a no?
