Like Lip Sync Battle, but with kids
The host of the new Lip Sync Battle Shorties will be Nickelodeon superstar and former America’s Got Talent Host Nick Cannon, the network announced Tuesday.
“I’m excited to host the first season of Lip Sync Battle Shorties,” said Cannon in a statement, “It’s always a pleasure to work with my family at Nickelodeon. It’s going to be a lot of fun watching the kids lip-sync their favorite songs and perform like their favorites artists.”
Premiering in early 2018, the show will see younger, non-celebrity competitors going up against each other as they lip-sync along to their favorite pop songs. Social media sensation and Dance Moms star JoJo Siwa will serve as Cannon’s “sidekick” throughout the show, which will also feature Halloween and holiday specials that are set to air at the end of this year. The respective “shorties” are allowed to make all creative decisions when it comes to their performances, including song, costume, and staging. Back-up dancing will be provided by the Shorties Dance Crew. Special guest appearances in each episode have also been promised (fingers crossed for Lip Sync Battle superstar and the show’s executive producer John Krasinski).
The show, which initially premiered as an hour-long special back in December 2016, is a spin-off of the wildly popular show Lip Sync Battle (or, Lip Sync Battle Tall People) hosted by LL Cool J and Chrissy Teigen on Spike. It is a spin-off of the wildly popular Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon sketch.
Lip Sync Battle was renewed for a fourth season this past spring.
