We’re only seven episodes into Wynonna Earp season 2 and quite a bit has happened — you know, just the fact that Dolls returned, Waverly became possessed and unpossessed by a demon, and Wynonna got super pregnant.
[SPOILERS AHEAD… Stop reading now if you have not watched “Everybody Knows,” episode 7 of Wynonna Earp.]
And if that weren’t enough, in “Everybody Knows,” we learn Wynonna’s baby might be not quite human. Even though it’s Comic-Con and creator Emily Andras is busy there, we couldn’t pass up the chance to ask her our weekly post-episode questions about this big hour. We had a short email conversation to talk about this week’s shockers, including Waverly revealing her big family secret to her sister…
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Well, a lot of things happened in “Everybody Knows”! Let’s start with the biggest: Is Wynonna carrying a half-revenant baby?
EMILY ANDRAS: She most definitely maybe kind of could be? We really don’t know, and it feels like Wynonna is less interested in finding out until she has to. What’s important to her is that she’s going through all of this with the best person she knows: her sister, Waverly. You know, an Earp. Except — not an Earp??
So Wynonna is definitely not going to do the DNA test now?
I think she’s moving on and needs to concentrate on being the Earp heir. I don’t feel like a DNA test would change anything for her at this point. One way or another, Wynonna is having this baby.
There’s a moment in the episode where she asks what a half Revenant-half human baby is and Nicole looks at her phone and says, “Waverly.” Are you trying to tell us something??
I like you, you’re savvy. Also good-looking. +316 Earper points to you. That being said, maybe it’s just another classic Wynonna Earp misdirect. Oh look, is that a pretty bird?
AlL right, well speaking of Waverly, she finally told Wynonna her suspicions about not being an Earp. Why did it take her so long to share this with her sister?
I think because she felt guilty. Waverly has taken up a lot of Wynonna’s worry room lately, what with the whole “I’m part tentacle” thing. And now, with Wynonna pregnant, I think Waverly felt like she couldn’t add to her big sister’s burdens. But they’re closer than ever, and it all just came to a head. Waverly cannot keep this secret any longer and she cannot find out the truth without Wynonna.
And as for the men of the episode, they were quite literally stuck together because of Jeremy’s bonding spell gone wrong. How fun was it writing and filming those scenes?
The funnest! Shout-out to Brendon Yorke for writing all the man-jokes. And a second (and third and fourth) shout-out to Shamier, Tim, and Varun for being so game for all the complicated wire work! We were pretty stoked to try a story line where the guys got to hang and bicker and get their feelings out in the open — all while fighting a ghost posse of U.S. Marshals.
So are Dolls and Doc friends now??
They’re Frenemies. Reluctant Pal-lies. Bra-migos. They’ll figure it out… eventually.
Wynonna Earp airs Fridays at 10 p.m. ET on Syfy.
