Ed Sheeran's Twitter reappears as fans bemoan exit
After an apparent deletion, the singer's social media profile has returned
Is Ed Sheeran still on Twitter? It’s a little unclear. The musician appeared to delete his Twitter account following his cameo on the Game of Thrones season 7 premiere. It has since reappeared, though it doesn’t seem quite up to date.
Sheeran has been saying for awhile now that he was getting sick of Twitter, telling The Sun earlier in June, “I go on it and there’s nothing but people saying mean things.” He said then he planned to mostly check out of his account and use it to just post automatic updates from his Instagram. But perhaps mean comments about his cameo in Westeros provoked him to delete it completely.
After fans noticed Sheeran’s absence on Twitter, they were quick to rally to his defense. “I thought he did great, shame so many idiots online,” one user wrote. “Just don’t understand how people can hate on Ed Sheeran so much to make him delete his twitter,” another lamented.
They shouldn’t have worried. As of Tuesday, Sheeran’s account has reappeared, though at time of publication, the most recent tweets it displayed were from 2015, and were all replies — mostly to other celebrities like Rob Delaney and Jessie Ware. The only non-reply tweets were three Sheeran posted on April 10, 2013.
