'Game of Thrones' inspires Dubai bakery to make life-size Tyrion Lannister cake
- TV Show
The new season of Game of Thrones is only a few days away, but some fans of the show gave themselves a sweet treat a few days earlier.
Dubai's Broadway Bakery has made a four-foot cake of fan favorite Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) sitting on the Iron Throne. As you can see in the video above, the bakers involved worked tirelessly to not only craft every sword that makes up the iconic seat, but nail every detail of Tyrion's likeness — right down to the stubble gracing his chin and the goblet of wine in his hand.
According to the bakery's YouTube page, the 70-pound cake reportedly costs $27,000. And while that's a hefty sum to pay for a life-size cake version of your favorite fantasy character, it's by far not the most expensive cake in the world. Two years ago, someone commissioned a $75 million birthday cake shaped to look like a runway fashion show featuring hundreds of real diamonds designed by British designer Debbie Wingham (who also designed the world's most expensive wedding dress).
Price tag aside, the cake is part of a recent trend of pop culture-inspired eats. Just this year, a Harry Potter-themed pasta restaurant opened in Brooklyn, followed by a Golden Girls-inspired cafe in Manhattan a month later.
HBO's epic fantasy drama based on George R.R. Martin's novel series A Song of Ice and Fire.
