Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays Jamie Lannister on HBO’s Game of Thrones, dangled the Jon Snow carrot in front of Jimmy Kimmel on the host’s late show Tuesday night. But did he actually let slip a spoiler? Probably not, but we know that’s happened in the past, so one can hope.
Kimmel confronted Coster-Waldau about seeming to lie about Jon’s true fate the last time he hit up Jimmy Kimmel Live. “You swore to me that he was dead,” Kimmel said.
“He was,” the actor replied, which is true. Jon was technically dead, but the Red Lady then used her magical mojo and resurrected him. “The thing is, Jon Snow is dead,” Coster-Waldau confirmed, “but Jon Stark-Targaryen has risen from the dead.”
That last bit made Kimmel pause for a second because it seemingly confirmed the character’s true lineage. Spoiler alert for anyone who hasn’t seen the Game of Thrones season 6 finale, but that episode did confirm that Jon is the son of Ned Stark’s sister, Lyanna, which does make him a Stark. The father’s identity hasn’t been addressed on the show, but the official Game of Thrones making-of website clearly linked Jon to the Targaryen clan.
Of course, Coster-Waldau added, “I mean, I’m just making it up.” But is he? The anticipation is too much to bear!
Watch Coster-Waldau on Jimmy Kimmel Live in the clip above, and tune into HBO this Sunday for the Game of Thrones season 7 premiere at 9 p.m. ET.
