Harlem’s Hero, meet… a Charlie’s Angel. Or O-Ren Ishii. (Or Ling Woo, to throw it way back.)

Lucy Liu is directing the season 2 premiere of Luke Cage, EW has confirmed. “What a thrill to collaborate with Marvel and Netflix, two industry titans, who paint our world with inspiring stories and beguiling characters,” Liu said in a statement to BuzzFeed, which first reported the news. “It is such an honor to work with such a passionate and fearless team.”

Though Marvel is keeping mum on details around the second season of their superhero drama about the Defender with unbreakable skin, executive producer Jeph Loeb shared some insight into Liu’s vision. “When you’re dealing with a bulletproof man, it helps if you have a bulletproof director,” he said in a statement to BuzzFeed. “Lucy brings a keen eye, a superb sense of story, and an obvious love of actors. She is rocking Luke Cage 2.”

Liu, who currently stars as Dr. Joan Watson on CBS’ Elementary, had previously been spotted on set with star Mike Colter and has been stepping behind the camera since 2011, when she made her directing debut with the short film Meena. As for the small screen, she has directed an episode of USA’s Graceland as well as four installments of Elementary.

Luke Cage season 2 will debut on Netflix in 2018.

The third colloboration from Marvel and Netflix, Luke Cage is based on the comic of the same name. Mike Colter plays the titular character, who is a former convict with superhero strength. Cheo Hodari Coker developed the series.
