Doctor Who showrunner teases 'rollercoaster' season finale
'The Doctor Falls' airs this Saturday
By the end of last week’s Doctor Who, things were looking grim for Peter Capaldi’s Time Lord and his two companions, Bill (Pearl Mackie) and Nardole (Matt Lucas), with John Simm’s dreaded Master back in the mix and Bill transformed into a Mondasian Cyberman. So, should fans expect a less nail-gnawing time watching the season finale, the ominously titled “The Doctor Falls”? They should not!
“It’s quite a rollercoaster,” showrunner Steven Moffat, who wrote the episode, tells EW. “There’s action, but the action is the least of it. It’s what that action is doing to the people, what it’s doing to the Doctor. I’m very, very pleased with it. I don’t know what other people will think of it, but I like it,” he adds, laughing.
The episode is directed by Rachel Talalay (Tank Girl, Sherlock), who seems to have become Moffat’s go-to finale filmmaker over the last couple of years and also directed last week’s episode, “World Enough and Time.”
“To be honest, I adore Rachel and I’ll take Rachel for anything she wants to do,” Moffat says. “She’s one of my favorite directors and one of the special things about her is that she can do anything you ask of her. In a way, it’s almost a coincidence that it’s always the finale.”
