Spike Lee will soon be making his TV debut.
Netflix announced Sunday night that the television adaptation of his classic 1986 film She’s Gotta Have It will be dropping this Thanksgiving.
As the teaser above reveals, the show will be a contemporary update of Lee’s classic 1986 film and will once again focus on a young Brooklyn artist named Nola Darling (Shots Fired‘s DeWanda Wise) as she attempts to not only define who she is, but also split her time among her friends, job, and three lovers. Lee will be directing each of the show’s 10 episodes. His wife, Tonya Lewis Lee, serves as executive producer.
Cleo Anthony (Divergent), Lyriq Bent (The Book of Negroes), and Anthony Ramos (Hamilton) play Nora’s three lovers. Chyna Layne (Precious) and Ilfenesh Hadeara (Baywatch), Margot Bingham (Barbershop: The Next Cut), Sydney Morton (Love, New York), and Joie Lee (Do The Right Thing) also star.
Not only does this mark the Do the Right Thing director’s first television series, but the original She’s Gotta Have It was Lee’s first feature-length film, launching Lee’s career and highlighting a big change in how African Americans were depicted on screen.
She’s Gotta Have It hits screens this Thanksgiving.
