Story of a Girl: Watch the trailer for Kyra Sedgwick's directing debut

Veteran Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning actress Kyra Sedgwick has stepped behind the camera for the Lifetime movie Story of a Girl, and EW has an exclusive first look at the trailer for the coming-of-age tale.

Based on Sara Zarr’s young-adult novel, Story stars Ryann Shane as Deanna, a 16-year-old girl still dealing with the fallout from a sex video that went viral three years earlier. Branded the school slut and at odds with her disapproving father, she longs to move on from her past mistakes but finds it hard to do so in the digital age.

“I deleted as much as I could,” she says, “but some stories just stick.”

For Sedgwick (The Closer, The Edge of Seventeen), her directing debut was also a family affair, with husband Kevin Bacon and daughter Sosie Bacon among the supporting cast.

Story of a Girl premieres July 23 on Lifetime. Watch the trailer above.
