Netflix cancels Sense8
- TV Show
After just two seasons on the streaming service, Netflix has announced that it has canceled its sci-fi drama Sense8.
“After 23 episodes, 16 cities and 13 countries, the story of the Sense8 cluster is coming to an end,” said Cindy Holland, Netflix’s vice president of original content, in a statement. “It is everything we and the fans dreamed it would be: bold, emotional, stunning, kick ass, and outright unforgettable. Never has there been a more truly global show with an equally diverse and international cast and crew, which is only mirrored by the connected community of deeply passionate fans all around the world. We thank Lana, Lilly, Joe and Grant for their vision, and the entire cast and crew for their craftsmanship and commitment.”
Sense8‘s official Twitter account shared a heartfelt message: “Thank you for being part of our journey. Sensates forever.”
The epic series follows eight “sensates” (regular, if super attractive, human beings who are mentally and emotionally linked) — Will, Riley, Nomi, Lito, Wolfgang, Sun, Capheus, and Kala — as they get into tight spots with local authorities and mobsters across continents and cultures. The group is hunted by an evil sensate named Whispers, who heads an organization that goes after his fellow kind. In season 2, the gang connects with other similarly gifted individuals from clusters other than their own.
Fearful of cancellation, fans on Tuesday shared messages on social media with #RenewSense8 in an effort to save the show. Now they may never know if Whispers has his way with the group or if Kala and Wolfgang ever consummate their love in person.
