The Tick, Amazon’s upcoming reboot of the comedic blue superhero, is finally ready for a close-up. After clips and first look images revealed actor Peter Serafinowicz donning the super-suit, a new promo debuted on Wednesday with the official premiere date for Amazon Prime, August 25.
As The Tick says, “Neat!”
Patrick Warburton originally portrayed The Tick in a live-action sitcom format for Fox beginning in 2001, but the show quickly came to a close after its first season. The odd man out of the superhero world, created by Bed Edlund, hopes to stick the landing in today’s comic book-friendly environment.
“It’s a tremendous balancing act because it had to have stakes, it had to have blood, it had to have certain things that are part of the living language of superheroes in the popular culture today,” Edlund told EW. “It has a responsibility if it wants to play in that pool to have life and death, to have a relationship to violence that none of the other iterations did. And so how do you have The Tick slip in a pool of blood and have it be funny? You have to find a very specific tone.”
Joining Serafinowicz in a world where superheroes have been real for decades is Griffin Newman (The Tick’s sidekick, Arthur), Brendan Hines (another superhero named Superian), Yara Martinez (Ms. Lint), Berto Colon (one of Ms. Lint’s henchmen), Jackie Earle Haley (The Terror), and Whoopi Goldberg.
