Marvelites want to know who will play Cable in Deadpool 2 more than the merc wants another close-corners match with Francis, but anticipation has led to a “fabricated” fan theory, says Pierce Brosnan.

A photo was released of the former James Bond sitting next to Hugh Jackman (the now retired Wolverine) and Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool), sparking a speculative conversation about whether or not Brosnan is joining the ranks of Fox’s superhero universe. However, the hoped-for Cable actor told Jimmy Kimmel on Tuesday that all this talk is “not true. Nothing’s come my way yet.”

As for the photo, Brosnan explained, “We were sitting, waiting for a plane, the three of us, and the guy said, ‘Quick, let’s get a photograph,’ and [I] jump in the middle and Mr. Reynolds said, ‘Let’s do Three Wise Monkeys.’ [We] put it out there and it went viral.”

“I don’t lie,” he added. “They know where to find me, it’s just fabricated.”

Nathan Fillion was also the subject of now-debunked Cable rumors when posters of his show Firefly were spotted in a Deadpool 2 teaser attached to Logan screenings in theaters. Other names, including Stranger Things star David Harbour, Brad Pitt, and now Michael Shannon have been floated, but Fox has yet to officially announce an actor for the role.
