The struggling screenwriters in TV Land’s Nobodies (Hugh Davidson, Larry Dorf, and Rachel Ramras) have staked their reputations on finding a top-notch celebrity to headline their movie, Mr. First Lady. They were counting on Melissa McCarthy, but in the face of her resistance, they’re trying to get to her through her husband, Ben Falcone. In an exclusive clip from this week’s second episode, the screenwriters sit down to pitch the script to Ben, only to make an unexpected discovery.

The meeting starts off on good terms, with Ben complimenting the Mr. First Lady title as a “good hook” even as Larry accidentally spills red wine on the white carpet. It takes a turn, however, when Ben assumes that the lead character was written for him, not his superstar wife.

“I don’t get many offers to act anymore. Everyone thinks of Melissa as the actor in the family,” Ben says in the clip. “I’m happy for her successes, I would never begrudge her that. Plus we’re not even in the same category, so it’s not really a competition. Just that you guys thought of me to play this role means a lot.”

Both Falcone and McCarthy are series producers on Nobodies. Watch the clip above. Catch the full episode, “The Rat, The Cheese, and The Trap,” this Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET/PT on TV Land.
