Brockmire has scored with IFC before the first pitch.

The comedy — which stars Hank Azaria as famous disgraced baseball announcer Jim Brockmire and Amanda Peet as the minor league baseball team owner who lures him back into the booth — has received a renewal for a second season, the network announced on Wednesday. The news comes just hours before Brockmire unveils its series premiere at 10 p.m. ET followed immediately by a second episode.

The network notes that the first episode — which was made available last month on VOD,, and Funny or Die — has netted 2.3 million views to date.

“This show is the most fun I’ve ever had,” said Azaria in a statement. “Well, the most fun I’ve ever had while working, anyway. It is truly my favorite thing I’ve ever done. Well, while being filmed, that is. Thanks to IFC for letting us do whatever we wanted to. Well, mostly.”

Brockmire‘s roots date back to 2010, as the character began on Funny or Die as an installment of Gamechangers.

The eight-episode season 2 of Brockmire will debut in 2018.
