Things are getting deadly on the first night of ATX TV Festival.
Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig’s Lifetime movie A Deadly Adoption will screen on June 8, the opening evening of the Austin-based festival. Following the special showing, Ferrell, writer Andrew Steele, and executive producer Jessica Elbaum will participate in a panel about the film.
In the thriller, which parodies the genre of many of Lifetime’s films, Ferrell and Wiig star as a married couple, who, years after a tragedy, are looking to adopt a second child. Finally, they find a seemingly perfect birth mother (Jessica Lowndes), only for things to take a Lifetime-style turn.
Premiering in June 2015, the project was intended to be a surprise, with no promotion advertising Ferrell and Wiig’s involvement. When news of the film broke, Ferrell had initially said it would no longer air.
“I don’t know if we’ll ever know whether it was a bet from a group of friends or he really wanted to do it,” Tanya Lopez, A+E Networks Senior VP of Original Movies, told EW in 2015. “We weren’t clear if it was going to be authentic, if it really was going to be this murder story.”
The sixth edition of ATX runs June 8 to 11.
