Ellen told her audience about her recent trip to the ER.
A dinner party over the weekend didn’t end so well for Ellen DeGeneres, who told her The Ellen DeGeneres Show audience on Tuesday how she dislocated her finger and ended up in the ER.
“So you know how in gymnastics when you do a one-handed cartwheel and you have to spread the weight evenly between all your fingers? Well, I had two glasses of wine and fell into a door,” she joked. The real story is that there wasn’t any gymnastics involved. Arriving home with wife Portia de Rossi, DeGeneres “caught the lip of the top step” and stumbled into a door.
“My first thought was, ‘No big deal, Obamacare will cover this,'” she said. “So Portia drove me to the hospital, to the emergency room, and when I got there, of course the receptionist had so many things for me to sign – a picture for her nephew, a t-shirt for her… No, they were wonderful. UCLA, thank you so much.”
DeGeneres showed the audience a couple photos of her dislocated finger, one slightly more graphic than the below X-ray shot she tweeted out. The host recalled how her nurse, Tammy, offered to give her a shot to dull the pain. “She said you’re gonna feel a little prick. This is a daytime show, you make up your own joke there,” DeGeneres giggled.
Some good did come of the visit, though. The crowd laughed as DeGeneres graciously accepted a $10,00 check from Shutterfly as a get-well-soon present. More seriously, the comedienne met and took a selfie with a couple at the hospital. “He and his girlfriend, we’re standing there getting a selfie,” she recalled, “and he goes, ‘I hope you’re gonna be okay,’ and I said, ‘I just dislocated my finger.’ I said, ‘What happened to you?’ He goes, ‘I got hit by a bus.'”
