Kate McKinnon may be talented, but even the Saturday Night Live player can’t be in two places at once — a predicament that no doubt comes up when she’s cast in back-to-back sketches requiring special effect makeup.

Lucky for her (and the rest of the show’s performers), the NBC sketch show’s makeup team is just as skilled as those getting cast members in and out of wardrobe changes in record time.

As evidenced by the behind the scenes clip above, it takes SNL‘s head of make-up Louie Zakarian and make-up artist Jason Milani only four minutes to get McKinnon out of the Jeff Sessions get-up she used for an impression of the current Attorney General of the United States during a recent “Weekend Update” segment, and into the garb she’d need to play her recurring “Shud the Mermaid” character in a sketch right after.

Saturday Night Live airs Saturdays at 11:30 p.m. EST on NBC.

The original late-night comedy sketch show from the one and only Lorne Micheals.
