Grey's Anatomy's Sarah Drew talks surprise Japril moment

April: The Sequel offered a somewhat happy ending for Jackson and April.
During Thursday’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy, Jackson (Jesse Williams) and April (Sarah Drew) ventured to Montana for a surgery, but Jackson had an ulterior motive: to meet his estranged father, Robert Avery (Eric Roberts), who left his life as a surgeon behind and now works in a bar.
While the reveal initially causes tension since Jackson hid the truth, ultimately his letting in April leads to a reconciliation of sorts as the duo sleep together after a successful surgery — and despite an unfruitful reunion with his father. Is this the first step toward a renewed Japril relationship?
“You’re just gonna have to keep watching,” Drew coyly tells EW. “What’s funny is, there are three different possibilities as a result of them winding up in bed together: There could be stress and anxiety surrounding it; there could also be maybe a solidification of just their very deep friendship, a return to best friendship; or there could be a total rekindling of their marriage and relationship. Any one of those options totally make sense. You’ll just have to keep watching to find out.”
Whatever comes next after the steamy hookup, Drew says it won’t be awkward upon their return to the hospital. “They’re so much more grown up than they were the first time they got together,” Drew says. “They’re so much more grown up from the time they went and got married impulsively. I think this time around, there’s a maturity to it, so I think the awkwardness is not there as much.”
Still, there’s a lot to decide for the duo as they try to figure out what’s next. “They’re still roommates, they still have a baby together,” Drew says. “‘Who are we? What are we? Are we just finding comfort in each other? Or are we actually getting back together?'” Hopefully, we’ll find out soon!
Grey’s Anatomy airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
