Doing good is never easy — and for the characters of American Crime season 3, it can be impossible.

Set in Alamance County, North Carolina, the anthology series’ third season delves into issues of forced labor, sex trafficking, immigration, the economy, and more. And in the exclusive clip above, recurring guest star Sandra Oh plays Abby Tanaka, a woman who runs a local shelter and is forced to turn away some in dire need due to a lack of space and resources.

“I don’t have anything,” she tells Kimara Walters, a social worker played by series regular (and Emmy winner for both previous seasons) Regina King, who’s trying to convince her to help an underage runaway. Seeing Kimara’s dismayed reaction, Abby tries to offer an alternative. “Bring him back in the morning, and I’ll see what we have,” she says. “I mean, we’ll try to get him in.”

The critically acclaimed drama created by John Ridley will also feature returning cast members Felicity Huffman, Timothy Hutton, Lili Taylor, and season 2 breakout Connor Jessup in season 3.

American Crime returns Sunday, March 12, at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
