Craig T. Nelson is returning to a role he has perfected — family patriarch.

The Parenthood alum has been cast in ABC’s comedy pilot Raised by Wolves, which was written by Academy Award-winner Diablo Cody.

Raised by Wolves centers on Sheila Gabel (Georgina King), a strong Midwestern mother attempting to wrangle her five eccentric kids, despite limited funds. Nelson, an Emmy-winner for his starring role on Coach, will play Sheila’s father Paul “Grampy” Kosinski. While the entitled baby boomer often takes advantage of his daughter, he also brings much-needed comfort to the family.

For six seasons, Nelson portrayed Zeek Braverman, the beloved grandfather of the close clan on Parenthood. The actor’s most iconic role was as Hayden Fox on the 1990s NBC football comedy Coach. In 2015, the network had ordered a revival of the series but eventually pulled the plug.

Catastrophe director Ben Taylor will helm the pilot and executive produce alongside Cody and Greg Berlanti.
