Fans of 'Gilmore Girls' may have just found their new obsession in 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel'
Fans of Gilmore Girls may soon have a new obsession. Series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino is developing a new drama called The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel for Amazon, and the pilot will drop later this month.
Written and directed by Sherman-Palladino and executive produced by Dan Palladino, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel stars Rachel Brosnahan (House of Cards) as Miriam “Midge” Maisel, “a 1958 New York City woman who goes from uptown housewife to stand-up comic in Greenwich Village.”
The cast also includes Michael Zegen (Boardwalk Empire) as Midge’s husband Joel Maisel, Alex Borstein (Family Guy) as Susie Myerson, Tony Shalhoub (Monk) as Midge’s father Abe Weinberg, and Marin Hinkle (Two and a Half Men) as Midge’s mother Rose Weinberg.
Amazon announced the first episode for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel will premiere on Amazon Video this March 17, along with the other new projects for pilot season. As is the tradition, viewers will be able to review each pilot and help determine which ones will become a full-fledged series.
Other shows in contention are The Legend of Master Legend from Transparent’s Noah Harpster and Micah Fitzerman-Blue, about “a homemade superhero in Las Vegas juggling the demands of his duty and his family” and starring John Hawkes (Winter’s Bone) and Shea Whigham (Boardwalk Empire); Joel David Moore (Bones) and Will Sasso (MadTV) appear in 1980s pot comedy Budding Prospects from Bad Santa’s Terry Zwigoff that’s based on the T.C. Boyle novel; Amazon’s “first adult animated comedy” The New V.I.P.’s, about “a group of low-level employees” who “seize control of a major corporation after accidentally murdering their boss” and featuring Ben Schwartz and Missi Pyle; and Oasis from Bridge of Spies’ Matt Charman tells of “a chaplain who is sent into space to help establish a colony on a distant planet” and stars Game of Thrones‘ Richard Madden, Anil Kapoor, and Haley Joel Osment.
