'He shifted from unhinged narcissist to hinged narcissist,' Colbert says

Unlike some media outlets that gave positive reviews to President Trump’s first address to a joint session of Congress, Stephen Colbert didn’t see anything to make him change his tune.

On Wednesday’s installment of The Late Show, Colbert acknowledged that the address represented a “big night” for the president — “or whoever gave that speech, because it really seemed like a different Donald Trump.”

But in response to the Washington Post‘s description of Trump’s speech as “surprisingly presidential,” a sarcastic Colbert quipped that it’s “always comforting when the president surprises you by seeming plausible.”

He went on to note that several outlets praised Trump’s “shift in tone.”

“Yes,” Colbert said, “he shifted from unhinged narcissist to hinged narcissist.” See more from Colbert above.

The Late Show airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET on CBS.
