ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live" - Season 15

After Donald Trump’s announcement that he won’t attend this year’s White House Correspondents’ dinner, it appears Alec Baldwin is ready to stand in.

The actor, who impersonates the president on Saturday Night Live, said during Wednesday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live that he’s not not lobbying for the gig.

“It’s interesting,” he told Kimmel, “there are people who, now that [Trump’s] not going to the White House Correspondents’ dinner, there are people who are lobbying to play Trump at the White House Correspondents’ dinner.”

“You are not one of those people?” Kimmel asked.

“Well, I wouldn’t say I’m not lobbying,” Baldwin responded before going on to address his online competition.

Kimmel reassured him, “It should be whoever the president hates seeing do it the most, and that’s undoubtedly you.”

Baldwin, whose deal to co-write a book as President Trump was announced earlier Wednesday, also recalled how he landed the SNL gig after initially rejecting it and shared the secret to getting into Trump’s mindset: “To me, Trump is someone who is always searching for a stronger, better word, and he never finds it,” Baldwin said.
