Sons of Anarchy spin-off adds Fast & Furious alum John Ortiz
Get John Ortiz a vest and a Harley, because the Fast & Furious star has signed on for the Sons of Anarchy spin-off Mayans MC.
EW has learned the actor will play Esai "Taino" Osorio, the smart and deadly head of the Mayans' Santo Padre Charter. Originally from the Bronx, Osorio was eventually sent to Oakland to live with his cousin and the group's founder, Marcus Alvarez. Played by Emilio Rivera, Alvarez was a fixture on the FX drama throughout its seven season run.
Set after the final events of Sons, Mayans, which currently only has a pilot commissioned, follows prospect EZ Reyes, who "struggles with his desire for vengeance against the cartel, and his need for respect from the women he loves."
Ortiz has plenty of experience on the streets, having starred as villain Arturo Braga in the fourth and sixth installments of the Fast & Furious franchise. He was last seen on TV with a recurring role on HBO's Togetherness and will pop up in next month's Kong: Skull Island.
He joins Edward James Olmos in the pilot from Sons creator Kurt Sutter, who will co-write and direct the episode.
