Rick and Morty fans who've been waiting more than 16 months for new episodes might not find this all that funny: AdultSwim trolled viewers everywhere by releasing the "exclusive! season 3 opening scene," which ended up just being a Rickroll video.

To enflame the burn, the video caption read, "Rejoice! It's finally here! Coming to you straight from the vaults of Adult Swim. Kick off your shoes and sit back for a peek at Season 3." But fans soon realized they were watching clips from the past two seasons edited together as a performance of Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up." The struggle is real.

Rick and Morty was renewed for season 3 shortly before the season 2 finale on Oct. 4, 2015. Co-creator and producer Dan Harmon, who's been plagued by anxious fans, said during a chat with IndieWire at the Sundance Film Festival in January, "I'm so sorry. I don't have a release date for season 3. It's not that I know it and I'm not allowed to say it; it's [Adult Swim's] domain. What I will tell you is it's late because of us, it's late because of me…. Rick and Morty keeps taking longer and longer to write, and I don't know why."

He cited "fights" with co-creator Justin Roiland, saying, "We didn't fight during season 2, that's why it's taking longer: all this fighting! So okay, let's stop fighting." However, Harmon said during a panel at Magic City Comic-Con that they're "targeting around the end of this year" for a season 3 premiere.

It seems as though Harmon and Co. are keeping to this schedule, as Rick and Morty writer Mike McMahan posted the cover of the script for the next episode to Twitter last week. "Hey @RickandMorty am I allowed to say we're recording episode 301 today?" he wrote.

Hang in there, fans. We're getting closer.
