Kyle MacLachlan suggests Portland secede in exclusive Portlandia clip
Portlandia‘s mayor (Kyle MacLachlan) is sick and tired of "outsiders" coming into the Oregon city and taking up tables at the restaurants he frequents. So he's got a plan: They're going to secede — and Carrie (Carrie Brownstein) and Fred (Fred Armisen) are all in.
"I need things to be weird and freaky," Carrie says. "The more people that come in from the outside, the more we start having to have to adapt to them."
The mayor agrees: "We have to control our borders," he claims. Sound familiar?

Cut to the courthouse, where the mayor is formally seceding… and trying to think up a chant to celebrate his decision.
In reality, some residents of Oregon did propose the state secede after Donald Trump won the presidential election — but for very different reasons than the fictional mayor's: "Oregonian values are no longer the values held by the rest of the United States," petitioner Christian Trejbal told The Oregonian in November. "Life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness, plus equality."
