If Alec Baldwin wants to give up his role playing Donald Trump on Saturday Night Live, Leslie Jones is ready to take over.
In a pre-taped sketch that aired on this weekend’s show, Jones decides that she’ll step in for Baldwin when the actor is too busy to guest on the show. “I never dreamed that I could play the president,” she says. “But then Melissa played Spicer, and I was like, ‘Yo! Why can’t I play Trump?'”
The Ghostbusters star goes on to study Trump’s speech patterns and mannerisms before trying on a blonde wig and going into Lorne Michaels office for an impromptu audition. Michaels, though, is less than thrilled.
“It’s not gonna happen, Leslie,” he responds when she walks in. Cut to Jones pinning Michaels up against his office window: “People keep casting me as someone who always yells,” she… yells. “I’m trying to show you I got range!”
