Sting performed such classics as “Roxanne,” “Fields of Gold,” and “Message in a Bottle” during his Tuesday night appearance on The Late Late Show, but there was a twist: the Police frontman and James Corden dressed as singing waiters in the throws of a restaurant turf war.

In the sketch, Sting keeps crossing over into enemy territory by performing for Corden’s assigned tables, while the late-show host defends the honor of “timeless ballads” over Sting and the Police.

The sing-off escalates when Corden pulls out a saxophone and his one-man band set, followed by Sting’s double-neck guitar. In the end, Sting wins out with a performance of “Every Breath You Take,” backed up by a band and choir.
