Doctor Who writer teases return of classic monster
Doctor Who writer Mark Gatiss has revealed that classic Who monsters the Ice Warriors will return in the new season of the long-running time travel show.
In a short video tweeted by the official Doctor Who Twitter account, Gatiss announced that the time had come “to welcome back some old friends,” and then held up an Ice Warrior action figure. “I’m bringing back the Ice Warriors again,” explained Gatiss, who is also a co-creator of Sherlock, on which he plays the character of Mycroft. The writer went on to describe this new adventure as “the kind of Jules Verne, Edgar Rice Burroughs story of derring-do, which I’ve always loved. But it has a new twist. There is a new Ice Warrior in it, a new kind of Ice Warrior.”
The Ice Warriors are a race of reptilian humanoids who first appeared on Doctor Who way back in 1967. Gatiss previously featured the race in his 2013 episode, “Cold War.”
