FIRST, the premium SVOD platform from Austin-based production company Rooster Teeth, has announced its 2017 animation slate, including the return of hit show RWBY. The fifth volume of RWBY — which follows the monster-battling adventures of Huntsmen and Huntresses in the future-fantasy world of Remnant — will return this fall. The show’s fourth volume concludes Feb. 4.
The company also revealed that season 15 of Red vs. Blue will premiere in April; the second season of comedy Camp Camp will debut in June as part of Rooster Teeth’s “Summer of Animation,” and a new animated show called Sex Swing will start on Feb. 18. The latter concerns a glam metal band and is described as “equal parts This is Spinal Tap and Metalocalypse.” In addition, the company promised more episodes of Death Battle, including a Lara Croft vs. Nathan Drake showdown which airs Feb. 1. Finally, Rooster Teeth has announced that a new season of RWBY spin-off RWBY Chibi will premiere in May and that more episodes of Death Battle spin-off show DBX are “in the works.”
All shows will premiere exclusively on FIRST, then move to YouTube and other free-to-watch platforms.
“Red vs. Blue started us on this journey 14 seasons ago, and RWBY has skyrocketed us to where we are now,” said Gray G. Haddock, head of Rooster Teeth Animation, in a statement. “Not only are we producing at least six animated series this year approaching 1000 total minutes of content, we’re excited to say we’re already deep into developing new future shows for FIRST and possible outside distribution partners. There’s so much more we’re going to do.”
